Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer. Many will be on the roads traveling which will increase the traffic, you will want to plan for any delays that might occur when driving to your destination. By leaving early, you can avoid frustration if slow or stopped traffic occurs. It will also reduce the urge to speed and rush because you are running late. Also remember that if the weather is less than ideal, the traffic will probably be going a little slower as well. Make sure that the fluids are checked and topped off before going to your destination.

Before the weekend, you will want to prepare for a safe and reliable drive. Having the vehicle serviced including a bumper to bumper inspection. If its time for an oil change, most shops will perform an inspection as part of the service. Tire rotations should also be done on a regular basis. Since the tires are the only part that will have direct contact with the surface of the road, it is important they are in good condition. When you fill up your gas tank, check the tire pressure of each tire. The recommended amount can be found in the owner’s manual or inside the driver’s door jamb.

Before hitting the road, remember to check your windshield wipers. Ideally, they should be changed twice a year. If they are starting to show signs of wear, it is always best to have them replaced. During the summer bugs, road grime, dirt, and other debris can get on the windshield. You will want to make sure that the windshield wipers can properly clear so you have the best visibility. Wipers that are starting to make noise when they operate is an indication that it is time to check the condition of them. If you notice an issue, make sure to contact us for an appointment to have them inspected properly.
