When Driving in the Winter, Leave enough Room

by | Feb 7, 2019 | Headlights and Tail Lights, winter, Winter care, Winter Driving Tips

As you drive on winter roads, you will want to make sure that you leave enough room. This helps you to drive safe in case cars around you slam on the brakes or start to slide on the road. If the vehicle in front of you has to slam on the brakes suddenly, you will want extra time and space to apply the brakes as well. You will want to make sure to slowly apply brakes, as slamming the brakes on slick roads can cause you to slide or lose control. Make sure to remain calm if your vehicle starts to slide or swerve. Over correcting can cause you to go in the ditch as well.

Turn Lights on

When driving in the winter, if there is precipitation, make sure that you have the headlights on. This not only allows people to see you, but it will help your visibility as well. When it is snowing, your visibility is impaired, so you will want to make sure you can see as far as you can by the headlights. If one light is dull or burned out, you will want to have it replaced as soon as possible. You can call us to schedule an appointment so we can replace the light for you. We can also check the placement and lens of the lights so that it is as efficient as possible.

Be aware with how your brakes work as well. If they are spongy or not as responsive, you will want them to be inspected. The brakes will need to be reliable. As the brakes wear, the brake pad and brake rotor can become damaged. This will require them to be replaced. We can also check the brake fluid levels to ensure the brakes are able to respond when you apply the pedal.
