Things to Check on the Tires

by | Mar 5, 2014 | Auto Repair, Car Care Tips, Safe Driving Tips, Tire Repair

The tires are one of the most important parts on a vehicle. This is because the tires are the only part that connects the vehicle to the road. The tires also help in preventing any sliding or swerving that might occur because of the condition on the roads. This can also help to be able to have a better handle of the vehicle. The tires should be inspected on a regular basis. By checking them frequently, you can help to ensure that they are in the best condition they need to be when you drive. Also remember to check the spare tire. The spare tire is not often used, but it is a very important part for the vehicle. If a tire goes flat, you will have to rely on the spare tire to get you to a destination to have the tire fixed.

The Air Pressure should be checked regularly

Having the air pressure in the tires checked frequently is important. This is especially important during the winter. When the temperature is cold, there is an increased chance that the tires will lose air pressure. As the temperatures decrease ten degrees, the tires could lose as much as one pound per square inch in air pressure. Make sure to check all the tires, including the spare tire. When the air pressure is checked, it should be done when the tires are cool and have sat for several hours. This is because when the tires have been in motion they will warm up. When this happens, it can lead to the tires expanding. If you take an air pressure reading during this time, it could give you a false reading of how much is in there.

Inspect the Tires over

The tires should also be inspected for the condition they are in. If there are any signs of puncture marks or cracks, make sure to bring the vehicle in as soon as possible. If there is damage to the tires, it could cause air to leak out of them. Make sure to inspect all parts of all the tires. Also check the spare tire. If you notice any issues with the tires when you drive, make sure that you bring the vehicle in. We can inspect the tires to see what the issue might be with them.

Notice how the Tires are wearing

When inspecting the tires, also check to see how they are wearing. Look at the tread of the tires. If you notice that the tire is wearing unevenly it could be a sign that something is wrong with the vehicle. This could include poor alignment of the vehicle. If you notice that the tires have any bald spots on them, it could also indicate an issue with how the tires rotate when the vehicle is in operation. The tires should wear evenly around, along with matching the other tires. If you are unsure if the tires are wearing evenly, make sure to bring the vehicle in as soon as you can. We can inspect the tires for any issues it might have.
