School buses on the road will start to be more typical, now that school has started for this new school year. Make sure that you are always paying attention to the road. This is especially important if you drive by a school area or route where children are picked up for school. When the lights start to flash on the bus, slow down and come to a stop as soon as you see it. This also applies when the stop sign extends from the side of the bus. When that is out, you are not allowed to drive past or alongside the bus. Usually a child will be walking out in front to or from the school bus. You will also want to make sure that you are paying complete attention to the bus and road.
Meeting a Bus
If you are driving on the road and meeting the bus, you will want to follow the same rules for it. If the lights are flashing, stop immediately. You will also want to stop if you see the stop sign on it extend out. When you are driving by a school or playground, also remember that you should slow down and really watch the sides of the roads. Sometimes a kid may run across it quick while trying to make it to the bus.
Remember to turn on the headlights
It is also a good idea to drive with the lights on your vehicle on. This way the bus driver and kids can see you as you drive. By having the lights on, you can help improve the safety for you and your passengers, as well as those around you. If you notice the lights are not working correctly, make sure to bring the vehicle in so we can inspect it for you. This will also help your visibility when you drive.
