Don’t forget to Check the vehicle in Winter

by | Jan 28, 2019 | Tire inspection, windshield, windshield wipers, Winter care

In winter, there are several things you should remember. Make sure to drive carefully and adjust your speed based on what the road conditions are. If the roads are covered with snow or ice, even just slightly, make sure to reduce your speed. Sometimes you may encounter black ice. This is dangerous because you will not notice it until you are on it. If it is snowing or there is blowing snow, that is another sign that you will need to slow down your speed. Make sure to drive with your lights on, so other drivers and people can see where you are. This will help to reduce the chance of an accident.

You will want to check the vehicle for any signs of damage. The cold temperatures can cause hoses or other parts to crack or break. If a hose cracks, then the fluid can leak out of the vehicle. This will reduce the efficiency of the vehicle. If the oil leaks out of the vehicle, the engine could be damaged. It can seize up or have the engine fail completely. You will also want to check the windshield wipers so they are free to operate and not frozen to the windshield. If they are, and you turn them on, you run the risk of having the wiper motor failing or becoming damaged. When scraping the windshield, check that the wipers are able to move. Also make sure they are free of ice or snow. This will help prevent the windshield from becoming scratched.

Air Pressure

Remember to check the air pressure in the tires as well. Cold temperatures can decrease the air in the tires. This could result in a flat tire. When tires are low on air, they have a better chance of blowing out. If you are not sure if the tires have the proper air pressure, make sure to bring it in so we can inspect it for you.
