What to check before you Drive

by | Mar 18, 2014 | Car Care Tips, General Car Maintenance, Road Trips, Safe Driving

Before driving your vehicle, there are some things that you should inspect on it. By checking these things, you can help to improve the reliability and maintenance of the vehicle. One of the most important things that you can do for your vehicle is to have it maintained based on the recommended schedule. Different parts and components should be inspected when the manufacturer recommends it for each. If you are unsure how often this should be, make sure to contact us. Bring the vehicle in and we can advise you on how often the vehicle should be maintained for the parts. If you ever notice an issue between regular visits, make sure to bring the vehicle in as soon as possible. Checking and fixing an issue at the start of it can help to prevent a larger issue from forming. It can also help reduce the chance of a costly repair bill in the future. Regular maintenance is also important to provide a more stable and reliable vehicle as you drive.

Inspect the Tires thoroughly

The tires should be inspected on a regular basis for the vehicle. The tires are important because this is the only part that connects you to the surface of the road. When you inspect the tires, make sure that the sidewalls and tread are in good condition. If there are any cracks or puncture marks, it may be time to invest in a new set of tires. Also check to ensure they are wearing properly. Tires that are wearing unevenly could indicate that the alignment is off. The tire should wear evenly, all the way around it. If you notice any issues with the tires, make sure to bring your vehicle in as soon as you can. You should also bring to our attention and noises or vibrations you feel from the tires as the rotate, as this could be a sign of a much larger issue.

Make sure the fluids are topped off

Also make sure to check all the fluids. The fluids should all be at the lines on each corresponding reservoir. This can help to make sure that the vehicle will work efficiently as it runs. If you notice that one fluid needs replacing frequently, it could be a sign that there is a leak somewhere in the system. Bring the vehicle in, and we can inspect it for you. This is especially important if you drive long distances, you do not want to have to stop to refill the fluid several times. Also make sure the oil is at the proper amount. It should also be changed when recommended. This can help to have new clean oil running through the engine and other parts of the vehicle.

The windows should be scraped off

Make sure that all the ice and frost are scraped off the windows properly. This can help to improve the visibility when you drive. Also clear off the back window, side windows, and also the side mirrors. This will improve the visibility because you can see those around you when you drive.
