by | Mar 27, 2015 | Car Care Tips, Driving Habits, General Car Maintenance, Night Driving

As the temperatures start to become warmer out, you may want to start driving faster on the roads. Be aware that there is still a chance there can be ice on the road. This is especially true for early mornings or in the evenings, as the temperature typically gets lower out. There are some driving tips and techniques you should be aware of. This can help you to stay safe when you are out on the road. It is also important to remember to bring your vehicle in for regular maintenances. This will help keep the vehicle working at top efficiency and performance levels. If you are unsure how often to bring your vehicle, make sure to contact us. We can advise you on a maintenance program and recommend when your vehicle should be inspected. There are also some things you can do between regular inspections.

Check the Tires before you Drive

When you get ready to drive, take a couple minutes to check the tires on your vehicle. The air pressure should be checked before driving a long distance. You can check the driver’s doorjamb or the vehicle owner’s manual. Also, you can bring the vehicle in and we can inspect the tires for you. If you notice that a tire is starting to get low in air pressure, it could be damaged and cause the leak. Besides the air inflation, check the tread wear on the tires. The tread is an important of the vehicle because the tread will help to grip the surface of the road. If the tread is wearing unevenly, then the tires may need to be rotated or realigned. If the tires are wearing evenly but they are new, the tires will need to be inspected. A new set of tires may be recommended if the tread has worn down on each of them.

Don’t Forget About the Windshield Wipers

Besides checking the tires on the vehicle, make sure to check the windshield wipers. Check the wiper blades to ensure they are in the best condition possible. If the blades are cracked, ripped, or damaged then they will need to be replaced. Ideally the wipers should be replaced at the beginning of spring, and then again at the start of fall. By keeping the windshield wipers new and in great condition, you will improve the visibility when you drive. If you notice that the windshield wipers chatter or skip, then they should be replaced. Make sure to bring the vehicle in and we can replace the windshield wipers for you. You should check the rear windshield wiper if your vehicle has one.

The Brakes are Important for your Safety

The vehicle should be brought in regularly so we can inspect the brake system for you. If there are any odd noises, it could indicate that the brakes are starting to wear. If the brake pedal is too soft, the brake pads could be wearing out. By having the brakes inspected on a regular basis, you can help improve the safety and reliability of your vehicle.
