Winter Driving Tips

by | Dec 13, 2018 | windshield, windshield wipers, winter, Winter care

winter

The winter means having to deal with difficult driving on the roads. This can include any form of winter precipitation, ranging from freezing rain to snow. You will want to make sure to adjust your driving habits in the winter. The first thing to do is to know what the road conditions and weather conditions might be. Doing so will help you prepare for the type of weather you will be driving in. If the weather will be less than ideal, make sure that you slow down. Only drive at a speed you are comfortable at. If you are driving too fast, you increase the chance of losing control of the vehicle. This can then result in an accident or you going in the ditch. Slow down when the weather is poor because the roads will be slick.

Check Tires

Remember to check the tires on a regular basis. In the winter, the tires can lose air pressure more often. You will ideally want to check them before you drive. Checking the air pressure after you have driven for awhile can result in a false reading. If you notice the tire is going low quite often, schedule an appointment. We can check the tire to see what the issue might be coming from. We can also check the valve stem and rims of the tire. Sometimes low air pressure is not the tire, but rather the valve stem or rim of the tire. Also you will want to double check that the spare tire has enough air in it.

Visibility

Make sure that you have the best visibility when you drive. Scrape all the windows so you can see from all sides of your vehicle. You will also want to scrape the side mirrors of your vehicle. It may be a good idea to have an extra ice scrapper in your vehicle during the winter, incase you lose or one breaks.
