Check the brake system regularly to help prevent an accident or serious situation that might be created due to poor performing brakes. In between scheduled maintenances, you may notice that when you apply the brake pedal, it may be spongy or hard. These can be signs that your brake system will need attention soon, and it is always best to bring your vehicle in shortly. Another thing you may notice is a loud noises or grinding sounds that come from the brakes when you apply the pedal.

When you have your brake system inspected, one of the parts that will be inspected are that brake pads. The brake pad is heated up in contact with the brake rotor. It starts to transfer small amounts of friction to the rotor itself. The friction of the brake pad and rotor combined is what provides most of the stopping power for your vehicle. The brake pads also squeeze against the rotor, which is attached to the wheel, and will force the wheel to slow down or come to a complete stop.

The brake rotors are the part of the braking system that the brake pads clamp onto in order to stop the wheels from spinning. The brake rotors can become damaged and scratched if you have a vehicle with worn brake pads. If you continue to drive with the worn out brake pads and rotors, it will only make things worse. You run the risk of doing more damage to parts of your brake system and it can result in a larger repair bill. The rotors can become warped over time and you may notice that there are vibrations in the brake pedal when you apply it.
